FC Barcelona wins the East Mallorca Girls Cup 2023, defeating Real Madrid (U-16) and Atletico Madrid (U-14 and U-12)

FC Barcelona (U-16, U-14 and U-12) has been proclaimed champion of the fifth edition of the East Mallorca Girls Cup, the international women’s youth soccer tournament that has been played in the Llevant area of Mallorca since last 12th until this Sunday and which is sponsored by the Consorci de Turisme de Cala Millor. The U-12 and U-14 finals, in which the Catalan team played against Atlético de Madrid, were played normally, but in the U-16, in which Real Madrid and FC Barcelona played against each other, a heavy rain shower appeared but did not prevent the development of the match, which after the 1-1 score at the end of the game gave way to the penalty shootout, finally deciding the championship in favor of the azulgranas.

A total of 48 teams -a record number in the women’s championship to date- have taken part in this edition. National teams and others from Sweden, Finland, Japan, Norway, Poland, Denmark, Germany and even one from Australia took part in possibly the best women’s grassroots soccer tournament in Europe.

The U-12 final was spectacular. FC Barcelona won the title against Atletico Madrid, who had their chances until the end. The blaugranas won 3-5 after a match with many alternatives. For the colchoneras scored the three goals Alicia Sanchez, who was the MVP of the category. For the Catalans, Laia Cendrero (2), Julia Alcober, Abril Ruiz and Lola Llopis scored.

The U-14 final repeated rivals and once again FC Barcelona won the trophy. The girls from La Masia took the lead through Noa Benito, then Maria Rius extended the lead but Lucía Gómez shortened the distance. The final 1-3 was the work of Charlota Dagny.

Finally, in the U-16 final there was maximum equality. Real Madrid took the lead through María Valladolid in the 10th minute, but almost at the end, in the 40th minute, Anna Quer equalized. The lottery of penalties served to proclaim FC Barcelona U-16 champions, who were overjoyed to see that, after the successes of their U-12 and U-14 teams, they also won the top trophy.
